Operation Hero Miles directs unused frequent flyer miles to veterans

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Governor Pat Quinn is asking Illinois residents to help veterans during this holiday season, by donating their unused frequent flier miles to vets.

Operation Hero Miles aims to help service members travel to visit their families.

The governor made his request at the Hines V.A. Hospital's Fisher House, whose foundation runs the program, in partnership with the Department of Defense.

The hospital's director had a reminder for anyone who is in touch with veterans.

"Tell them to enroll in V.A. Health care," Joan Ricard said. "They deserve this. This is what they've earned through their service to the country."
