8-year-old boy killed by train in East Chicago

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

 An 8-year-old boy died Saturday when he was struck by a train in northwest Indiana.

He was fatally hit by the train about 3:20 p.m. in the 4600 block of Magoun Street, in East Chicago, a release from the Lake County (Ind.) Coroner's Office said. The boy's identity was being withheld until his relatives could be notified.

The boy, a pedestrian who lived about a block from the scene near Lewis Street, died of blunt force trauma, the coroner's office said.

No additional information was immediately available Saturday night.
