Service returns to normal after subway derailment

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The MTA says service on the A, C and D lines has returned to normal following the derailment of an A train at 81st Street on Saturday morning.

The A train derailed when it lost a wheel traveling through the Central Park West express line.

The derailment forced the evacuation of dozens of passengers, according to authorities.

The train was heading downtown from Harlem around 9:02 a.m. as it passed by the West 81st Street station.

Authorities say no one was injured as subway crews evacuated the passengers by backing up a rescue train to the front of the derailed one. The rescue train brought the passengers to the Columbus Circle subway station.

The derailment forced southbound A and D trains to run on the local track as crews worked in the afternoon to right the derailed train.

All A and D trains were forced to run local from the 125th Street Station to the 59th Street-Columbus Circle Station in both directions and C train service was suspended from the Euclid Avenue Station to the 168th Street Station in both directions.
