FRASER, Mich. (WJBK) -- Family members of a Fraser teen, including his mother and legal guardian, rushed out of juvenile court where he was ordered held without bond on a charge of making a threat of terrorism -- a 20 year felony.

The 16-year-old boy is accused of threatening to shoot fellow students at Fraser High School because of the Mayan end of the world on Friday.  He then allegedly showed cell phone pictures to prove he had a gun.

"They looked at his phone.  He showed a picture of a gun magazine and a picture of him holding a gun in front of a mirror," said Fraser Police Lt. Dan Kolke.

Police quickly arrested the student, who has only attended the school for one month.  It turns out he has an extensive criminal history.

Family members told the referee the teen just got out of a detention facility in Indiana and was held there for two years for obstructing a police officer.  They said he was also charged with domestic violence in Ohio.

"You never know whether these kids are going to be serious or not.  We do know that he has access to a gun sometimes, so who knows if he would've carried it out," Kolke said.

That's why so many metro Detroit parents and school officials are on edge.  Fraser and L'Anse Creuse schools sent home letters reminding families about safety procedures and assuring parents their is extra security.

Lapeer, Sanilac and Genesee County schools closed as a precaution and Monroe schools are now also closed Friday.

Classrooms at North Farmington High School were locked down Thursday morning after what school officials called an indirect threat via social media.

In most cases, police say the rumors and threats have not been credible, but in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting, no one is taking any chances.
