Touting the accomplishments of the Brick City under his tenure, Democratic Mayor of Newark Cory Booker announced on Thursday that he's looking to make a run for the United States Senate in 2014.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Booker said he planned to complete his second term as mayor.

"As I explore a run for United States Senate, I look forward to consulting with Sen. Frank Lautenberg. It will be a privilege and honor to continue his legacy of service."

The New Jersey native says he intends to be of service to the Garden State for the rest of his life.

Among the improvements to the gritty city, Booker highlighted lower crime statistics and efforts to reform urban education.

"Newark is in its biggest period of economic growth since the 1950s. In the most promising sign is that for the first time in 60 years, Newark's population has actually grown," said Booker.

In a Tweet Thursday to his followers thanking them for their support, @CoryBooker used the hashtag: #finishingthework.

Some political insiders anticipated a face-off for governor between Gov. Chris Christie and Booker after Christie announced last month that he would seek re-election in 2013.
