LINWOOD, N.J. (AP) -- Police in New Jersey are responding to potential threats in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting.

Washington Township police are beefing up security after arresting a Westwood Junior/Senior High School student accused of using social media to make a threat.

Police tell The Record newspaper the student is charged with making terroristic threats.

Authorities also charged a 15-year-old female Mainland Regional High School student in Linwood with creating a false public alarm.

Police told The Press of Atlantic City the student is accused of creating a text message that was circulated around the school that was perceived as a threat.

The charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
