5 More School Shooting Victims Being Buried Today

Posted: Updated:

Today marks another day of mourning in Connecticut.

Families will gather for a third day of funerals for the victims of Friday's mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Daniel Barden, 7, will be laid to rest today. So will 27-year-old Victoria Soto, a teacher killed in the massacre.

Some of the other funerals being held today are for 7-year-old Chase Kowalski, 6-year-old Caroline Previdi and 6-year-old Charlotte Bacon.

There were two funerals held yesterday. The town said goodbye to 6-year-old Jessica Rekos and James Mattioli.

The service for James had not yet ended as mourners began arriving at the St. Rose of Lima Church to pay their respects to Jessica and her family.

People from across the country are showing support for the victims of the Connecticut massacre, including those who have experienced similar tragedy.

Members of Nickel Mines Amish community are writing letters to grieving parents in Newtown.

Back in 2006, a gunman killed five girls at West Nickel Mines Amish School and wounded five others before killing himself.

Amish parents say time can help healing.

Meanwhile, a California man wanted to do something to help the grieving residents in Newtown. So, Tom Cavanaugh decided to pick up the tab for 100 cups of coffee at the Newtown general store.

Cavanaugh is not the only one trying to help. A woman from New York donated hot chocolate and others bought food and snacks.

After days of silence, the National Rifle Association is finally speaking out about Friday's massacre.

The NRA issued a statement saying they were "shocked, saddened and heartbroken" over news of the shooting. The group also said they are prepared to offer meaningful contributions to make sure this never happens again.

The organization says they will hold a press conference this Friday in Washington.

The White House says President Barack Obama is actively supportive of efforts on Capitol Hill to reinstate an assault weapons ban.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein plans to introduce legislation to reinstate the ban early next year.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says the president would also support legislation to close the gun show loophole, which allows people to buy guns from private dealers without background checks.
