College of Staten Island readies campus housing

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (AP) -

The College of Staten Island is offering students tours of its model dorm as workers near the finish line on building the school's first on-campus housing.

The two buildings are set to open in August and will house 454 students. CSI will be the fourth City University of New York campus to offer dormitories. City College and Hunter College in Manhattan and Queens College added dorms in recent years.

The model dorm is a four-bedroom, two-bathroom unit. It will rent for $6,060 per person, per semester. The private company American Campus Communities will manage the buildings.

The $70 million project will reshape what is now a commuter school. The transition will involve revamping many aspects of campus operations, from security and transportation to library hours.
