6 Newtown Schools Reopening After Tragedy

Posted: Updated:

The mourning goes on in Newtown, Conn., as the town tries to attend the first funerals among all of the attention and all of the hurt.

Six schools will reopen today in Newtown, all except Sandy Hill Elementary.

Sandy Hook is still an official crime scene. Authorities there say they expect to spend several weeks and maybe months investigating every angle and talking to every witness, including many children, hoping to figure this whole thing out as best they can.

And another funeral, the third so far, will be held today, too.

This funeral will be for 6-year-old Jessica Rekos.

Jessica loved horses and had already asked Santa Claus for cowgirl boots and a hat. Her parents had already promised to get her a horse for her tenth birthday.

Two of Jessica's classmates were laid to rest Monday.

One police official in Newtown says he expects a lot of kids absent Monday and a lot of apprehension for all those who do show up.

"We just had a horrific tragedy," Lt. George Sinko said. "We had babies sent to school that should have been safe and weren't. You can't help but think … if this could happen again."
