SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- During last week's taping of a special edition of Fox 2's Let it Rip, Mich. Governor Rick Snyder weighed in on a bill passed by the Michigan Legislature that allows people who undergo extra training to carry concealed weapons in places such as schools and churches.

The segment with Huel Perkins, Charlie Langton, Charlie LeDuff and Snyder was taped as details about the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. continued to develop.

Twenty children and seven adults, including the shooter, died in a tragic event that has gripped our nation and left hundreds grieving.

Snyder says the events in Connecticut "give him pause" as he considers signing the new concealed weapons bill here in Michigan.

Snyder also posed a question: "Is it the gun or the person with the gun?"

Play the video to see Snyder discuss specifics about Michigan's concealed weapons bill with Perkins, Langton and LeDuff.

The Republican-controlled House approved the bill Friday after it cleared the Senate on Thursday. It now awaits Gov. Snyder's signature or veto.

Another provision would eliminate county concealed weapons licensing boards, with sheriffs taking over their duties.

Under the bill, people who concealed carry in gun-free zones would have to get enhanced training beyond basic requirements and spend additional time at the gun range. "Open carry" in those areas would be prohibited.

Decisions on licenses would have to be made within 45 days after an application is filed.

Members of Michigan Prophetic Voices and the Metro Coalition of Congregations say they will hold a prayer vigil Tuesday afternoon outside Snyder's office.
