MI students return to school after shooting tragedy

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

It's too soon to even begin to figure out why, but it's time for schools to figure out how to seal themselves from threats like the one that led to the massacre in Newtown Connecticut.

Today many schools across Metro Detroit are feeling anxious as students return to classes after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Schools are calling on police officers. Staff sits inside listening to emergency scanners – most with the doors locked.

    Five people were injured when a van jumped a curb in downtown Brooklyn on Friday.
    Five people were injured when a van jumped a curb in downtown Brooklyn on Friday.  The van rear-ended a Taxi and Limousine Commission vehicle at the corner of Church Ave. and Utica Ave. at about 7:45 a.m., said police. One of the pedestrians that was struck by the van was taken to Brookdale Hospital. Four other victims were taken to Kings County Hospital.
