Police gave the all-clear Monday morning in Ridgefield, Conn. following the lock-down of all schools due to reports of a suspicious person near a train station, reports the district website.

"After an extensive police search, no dangerous activity was discovered. Branchville students are now taking buses from East Ridge back to Branchville. Schools are no longer on a modified lockdown. As planned for today, a police presence remains at each school. Thank you."

The message was posted at about 11:15 a.m.

Earlier in the day, Conn. State Police were asked about the lock-down during a news conference about the Newtown massacre.

"We have sent appropriate personnel in that direction to assist Ridegfield but Ridgefield is handling that situation and there has been no updates other than that," said Lt. Paul Vance.

The following message was posted on the Ridgefield Public Schools website:

"At 9:00 AM there were reports of a possibly suspicious person in the Branchville Train Station area.   All schools have been put in lockdown and there is police presence at each building.   Branchville busses were diverted to East Ridge Elementary and BES students are in the auditorium.   We will provide updates as soon as there is new information."

Students across the country returned to classes on Monday with security in mind following a massacre at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
