DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. -
A Christmas caroling tradition in Delaware County is helping to make kids' dreams come true one song at a time.
Putting their voices towards a good cause, Olivia, Alexa and Sophia Andrisani of Newtown Square, Pa. started "Caroling for Kids," to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation.
"Some of the wishes went to people I'm friends with and who I know and they didn't really know at first it was from me, but I was happy to be able to make a difference in their lives," 13-year old Olivia told FOX 29.
The girls' father, Nathan Andrisani explained that the girls felt the need to help others in this way about seven years ago. "We have a family friend who was suffering from a terrible illness and had been the beneficiary of a wish and Olivia turned around to us one night and said I want to raise money for make a wish.
Next, they needed a way to raise funds. Olivia says she got the idea from the movie Elf.
The movie states three rules for an Elf.
1. Treat every day like Christmas
2. There's room for everyone on the nice list.
3. The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.
Since the singing began, the group has raised over $105,000 for sick children.
"It was literally collecting change on the coldest nights of December. Her and six or seven little friends would go door to door and raise money and it caught on," Nathan Andrisani told FOX 29.
Over the years the kids have heard back from sick children across the nation through letters and pictures.
One of which youngest sister, Sophia, read.
"Dear Make A Wish friend, my name is Gary...I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my make a wish trip come true...I can't believe you did all of this for me and my family."
You can help grant a very special wish by donating to make a wish online or going to Love Park in center city this Saturday December 15 starting at 11:30 am to sing with these carolers.
