A Santa Barbara, Calif. man is under arrest on arson charges after police say he set the U.S. flag on fire outside of a federal bankruptcy court.

Gary Evan Matthew Working, 25, was arrested on Monday evening.

Santa Barbara police say that Working used a lighter to burn the rope adjacent to the flagpole used to raise the flag.  They say he then lowered the flag and dragged it on the ground behind him.

Police say he then stopped in the parking lot and set the flag on fire.

A witnesses told him that she was calling the police.  He allegedly responded,  "I'm not hurting anybody, go ahead."

Police claim that Working also said that he "was in the war," and that he was now homeless.

Working told police that he burned the flag because he was upset at the "Oval Office" and its lack of action in helping people.

Working was booked on $50,000 bail.
