Tucson man indicted in tax fraud case

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities say an Arizona man is facing numerous charges of identity theft and false claims in connection with a tax refund scheme.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced the 58-count indictment against Osabuohien Odyssey Oronsaye on Tuesday. The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in Tucson last week and authorities say Oronsaye was arrested Friday.

The indictment alleges the 34-year-old Nigerian native prepared tax returns with the names and Social Security numbers of individuals whose personal information had been stolen.

He's accused of making up income and wage information, tax withholding information, tax deductions, tax credits and dependents.

The indictment also alleges that he submitted fraudulent credit card orders using stolen credit card numbers.

A message seeking comment was left Tuesday evening with the Phoenix-based law firm representing Oronsaye.
