Police warn Southwest Side businesses of armed robberies

Police are warning Southwest Side businesses of an increase robberies at gunpoint this month.

An armed gunman enters the business, demands money in Spanish then takes cash from the register while another man stands by the door, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives. The men are masked during the robberies.

The robberies happened about 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in the 2800 block of West 59th Street and about 4:50 p.m. in the 2900 block of West 59th Street, police said.

The robbers are described as a Hispanic men between 5-feet-2 and 5-feet-9 and 140 to 200 pounds, police said.
