Wine, fruit & cheese pairing for the holidays

Red or white, cheddar or brie, grapes or strawberries?

Pairing wines, cheeses and fruit is no easy task, or is it?

Missy McHone from AJ's talks cheese and wine for your holiday gatherings with FOX 10's Rick D'Amico and Kristin Anderson.

What makes a great cheese platter?

  • 3 or 5 cheeses. Odd numbers.
  • Pair Accompaniments: Dried fruits, jams, olives, nuts, fresh fruits
  • Have an appropriate amount of cheese for party size. (1-1.5 oz) per person of each cheese.
  • Build counter clockwise mildest to strongest.
  • Description of cheeses: St. Andre, Old Amsterdam, Shafts blue, Bucheron chevre, Colliers Cheddar.


Using Cheese as the star that can be paired with wine or beer:

  • Savory Mushroom and Gouda Tart
  • Pairs with red Cote de Rhone wine
  • Pairs with Red Ale such as Murphys.


Pairings: What to serve with cheese:

  • Both compliment Cheese: Wine is liquid fruit, Beer is liquid bread
  • Reds: Beaujolais Village (Louis Jadot)
  • Whites: Sauvignon Blance (Girard)
  • Beers: Camelback IPA, Strongbow English Cider
