Could right-to-work put new arena project in jeopardy?

LANSING (WJBK) -- If, and more likely when, right-to-work legislation becomes law, could it cost Detroit a new home for the Red Wings?

That's the threat from several Lansing lawmakers. They say right-to-work is wrong for Michigan and their anger is focused squarely on Gov. Rick Snyder and republicans.

Union leaders are asking House democrats to block any legislation Snyder supports. "As it stands, we're still united in not supporting any of that legislation that comes down," said Rep. Fred Durhal, Jr.

The problem, however, is some of that legislation directly impacts Detroit, including a bill that could pave the way for the Ilitch sports complex which could create jobs and bring millions of dollars to the city. There's also a bill designed to restore streetlights all over Detroit by creating a municipal lighting authority.

Those are just two reasons why it's believed many democrats will support the bills and fight the battle in other ways.
