NORTH PHILADELPHIA -

Four children were taken to a nearby hospital in North Philadelphia as a precaution after their school bus crashed into the side of a home Monday.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. in a home along the 800 block of Cambria Street.

Police say there were a total of four kids on the bus, three from Charles Henry Elementary and one from Henry Houston Elementary.

Witnesses tell FOX 29's Chris O'Connell the school bus looked like a "pin ball" as it went through the neighborhood, smashing into cars, fences and eventually coming to rest in the bedroom of the home.

Pictures sent to UREPORT on myfoxphilly.com show the significant damage to the front of the bus.

Yolanda Maldonato, who lives in the apartment the school bus crashed into, says her basement and the first floor of her home are destroyed. Maldonato wasn't home at the time of the crash.

Neighbors who saw the crash claim the driver was on a cellphone. A student tells FOX 29 the driver was arguing with his girlfriend.

The driver tells FOX 29 he was never on the phone.

The school district says the driver will be off the road, pending the results of a routine drug screening.
