Two people were killed after their car crashed into a light pole near 67th Avenue and Solano Drive on Sunday morning.
Glendale police say they had a hard time identifying the victims killed because their car was so badly damaged.
"We live on the bottom floor and it still shook us. We were in bed and it shook us awake," said October Laubhan.
A loud explosion woke Laubhan just before 7 a.m. when a vehicle crashed head on into a light pole 40 feet from her window.
"We walked outside and there was smoke, cops were called immediately," said Laubhan.
"It's bad, it's very critical, very horrible damage...the engine compartment is crushed pretty far into the front part of the vehicle itself," said Sgt. Mark Lankford with Glendale Police Department.
Lankford says a male and female were inside the Jeep; the male was driving. Both people were extracted by emergency workers in an effort to save them.
Nearby residents watched, worried it was too late.
"When I got here I just saw the two bodies on the floor," said Jay Alfaro.
While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Glendale police did confirm that neither the driver or passenger were wearing a seatbelt.
"It's a 40 mile an hour area here at 67th Avenue, we don't see any skid marks or anything like that," said Lankford.
"If that pole wasn't there, it could have hit our apartment, it was that close, and it just makes it so real," said Laubhan.
Although Laubhan was still shaken by what she saw, she hopes the crash will serve as a reminder for others to be careful.
"It just makes you wonder, like, who were they? Who's father, son, mother, daughter were they?" said Laubhan.
Police say it's too early too tell if drugs and or alcohol played a role in the accident.
They haven't released the names of the people killed.
