A valley home went up in flames early Saturday morning in the area of 25th Street and Greenway.
Firefighters had a tough time putting out the blaze as they faced several obstacles, making nearby residents nervous the fire would spread.
Bright orange flames lit up the night sky as thick, heavy smoke billowed from the home located on Kings Avenue.
"Burning wood..metal, just horrible," said Jordan Miller, a neighbor.
The 911 call came in around 4:30 a.m. It wasn't long after crews arrived that neighbors knew something was wrong.
"One huge bang..it woke me up from a dead sleep," said Ken Costagan, a neighbor.
Another neighbor, Madelene Ferrell, said "I first heard a thud, like a loud thud and I said to my husband, what the heck was that and the next thing was the house shook, everybody's house shook."
Residents reported hearing as many as three explosions and say firefighters fought several obstacles as they worked to put out the fire.
"It seemed like it was going down..all of the sudden flames would shoot up in back or the front," explained Costagan.
Neighbors tell us there was a heavy police presence out here while firefighters fought the blaze. Several intersections in the area were closed to traffic and pedestrians.
"The cops were there and they told us just to wait there and we were okay," said Maria Rojo, who was evacuated from the area.
Rojo and her family live behind the house that caught fire. They were evacuated as a precaution.
Firefighters say the resident and his dog made it out unharmed, but the home is a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There's no word yet on what may have caused the explosions.
