Ga. OKs moonshine samples at City Hall distillery

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A moonshine distillery in Dawsonville City Hall has obtained the final approval it needs to offer samples of legal moonshine to visitors.

Proprietor Cheryl Wood says she received notice from the state licensing board that tastings can now be offered, a first for Georgia.

The Times of Gainesville reports (http://bit.ly/WLs1qs) that visitors can sample up to a half ounce of spirits per person, per day when touring the distillery.

State Rep. Rusty Kidd of Milledgeville introduced legislation to make the samples legal. He predicts there will be more legislation during the upcoming session that would allow the distillery to sell a single bottle of moonshine to visitors who want to take one home. Its moonshine is already sold in some stores, but current law only allows samples at the distillery itself.
