It's not just here in Arizona that people protest Sheriff Joe Arpaio. A San Francisco school canceled a scheduled meeting on Thursday.
At James Lick Middle School, 50 eighth grade students wrote letters to Sheriff Joe, stating Arizona's immigration law was racist and broke up families. The letters were translated into English from Spanish.
Arpaio was already in northern California for a speaking engagement, and was going to meet with the students.
"It's important to explain to our young people that as law enforcement professionals, we are obliged to enforce all the laws of the land," Arpaio said on Wednesday. "If these students really want to see a change in enforcement, then they and their families must work with their local government officials to change the laws we are obliged to uphold."
But the meeting was called off when the school canceled. When asked why they canceled, the school simply said they had no reason.
