PHOENIX -

Phoenix police are scaling back their search for a missing 11-year-old girl battling leukemia. Doctors feared the girl's life could be in danger after her parents snuck her out of a hospital with a catheter still in her heart.

They sent a police officer into Mexico to check on her, and doctors say she's been treated and doing fine.

The search for 11-year-old Emily Bracamontes is over. Police say they feel confident she's getting the medical attention she needs in Mexico.

Surveillance video of Emily's mom sneaking her out of Phoenix Children's Hospital sparked a nationwide search last week.

You can see Emily walking around the hospital one day before she's supposed to be released. Her right arm was amputated. The IV was taken off, but the catheter was still in her heart. That catheter could have caused a serious infection and even death.

Police in Phoenix called down to San Luis, Arizona. They asked a detective to go into Mexico and check on Emily and make sure she's getting medical treatment.

That detective spoke with a doctor who said he had treated Emily and referred her to a specialist to have the catheter removed. The doctor told the detective Emily seemed healthy and was doing well.

Police say that later Thursday, that detective plans to meet with Emily and her mom to make sure she's safe.

It's not clear whether Emily's parents could still face endangerment charges. Police say they have a history of skipping out of hospitals during Emily's leukemia treatment.
