Report: NFL commissioner mulls eliminating kickoffs during meeting

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell thinks eliminating kickoffs will receive more consideration by league leaders.
Representatives with TIME Magazine recently sat in on a meeting between Goodell head of the NFL's Competition Committee, Rich McKay, while working on an in-depth report on the commissioner.
During the meeting, Goodell reportedly brought up a proposal promoted by Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano that would give kickoffs the boot.
The proposal would give teams the ball on their own 30-yard line after a touchdown or a field goal in a fourth and 15 situation. TIME reports that under this proposal, teams can either go for it and try to retain possession or punt. Punting, which experts view as less dangerous than kickoffs, would take the place of kickoffs.
The commissioner reportedly predicts that eliminating kickoffs will receive more consideration. Goodell is quoted as saying it's a different, "off-the-wall" idea that will make others think differently as it did to him.
