6 Philly Cops Removed From Drug Cases

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A letter from the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office obtained by FOX 29 states six Philadelphia Police officers will no longer be used as witnesses in drug cases.

According to the letter, the DA's office says it won't accept any drug cases when any of these officers are involved.

The letter also says the district attorney's office will not approve any search warrants or arrest warrants requested by these six officers.

FOX 29's Jeff Cole reports the actions of the officers apparently caught the eye of federal investigators, who became concerned and urged the DA to no longer use these officers in drug cases.

Sources tell Fox 29 there was some concern about the strategy the officers were using to build their cases. We're told they took a ladder approach. Making small time dealers they'd busted buy from larger dealers who they'd arrest.

FOX 29 caught up with Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey late Wednesday afternoon. Ramsey says there's no specific allegation that was made against the officers, but in the best interests of the department, for now they have been reassigned.

Ramsey tells FOX 29 he knows of no criminal or disciplinary actions at this point to be taken against the officers.

Cole reports the move by the DA could impact a large number of narcotics cases.
