Some South Loop residents against new DePaul basketball arena

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Some South Loop residents aren't too happy about DePaul University's plans for their neighborhood.

DePaul is planning to build a new basketball arena, and one of the possible sites is just north of McCormick Place.

That idea is already drawing strong opposition from the Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance, which is a neighborhood group.

The group released a letter Tuesday, saying 70% of 700 neighbors that were surveyed were against the plan.

The letter also said an arena would not fit the residential and historic character of the area - and could put two landmark structures at risk.
