2 teens hit by a car in N. Phoenix

PHOENIX -

Two teenagers were hit by a car near 39th Drive and Happy Valley Tuesday morning.

Police say the 17-year-old male and 17-year-old female were struck while walking near Sandra Day O'Connor high school.

The male was airlifted to an area hospital while the female was transported by ambulance.

It's not known if the driver was impaired and no names have been released in this case.

Phoenix Fire Captain Jonathan Jacobs says there are not details on how the incident occurred at this time.

The area was congested for well over an hour as first responders arrived at the scene.  By 9 a.m., traffic was returning to normal.
