Phoenix apartment fire ruins 4 units, kills 5 pets

PHOENIX -

A fire at an apartment complex near 35th Avenue and Peoria destroyed four units and killed five pets on Sunday night.

Firefighters declared four apartments a total loss, leaving 14 people without a home.

Multiple other units have extensive water and smoke damage.

Firefighters were able to rescue numerous dogs but three cats and two snakes were killed in the fire.

No people were hurt in the fire.

Investigators say the fire started on the first floor, but are still trying to figure out what caused it.
