Land sale for Green Valley hospital passes

Updated:

GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - The purchase of land for the first hospital in the southern Arizona town of Green Valley has become final.

The Green Valley News and Sun reports the sale of the 22-acre site closed Friday between landowner Fairfield Homes and developer McDowell Enterprises of Scottsdale.

A sale price was not disclosed.

Fairfield owner David Williamson says there are no stipulations allowing McDowell Enterprises to back out if the project falls through.

McDowell Enterprises and Tucson Medical Center have an agreement to build the hospital. It will be just east of Interstate 19, about 20 miles south of Tucson.

Green Valley residents currently have to travel 30 miles for emergency medical treatment.

Some homeowners have opposed the plan, saying the $52 million project will hurt property values and damage ranch structures.
