Mom, Boyfriend Charged In Death Of 5-Year-Old

Posted: Updated:

Even though family members lived right next door to the North Philadelphia apartment, they had no idea what may have been going on inside.

The victim's grandmother, Grace Finch told FOX29 "They [police] won't let us see the body because they said he was beaten unrecognizable with burn marks on his chest."

Police found the lifeless body of 5-year-old Dashawn Harris inside the West Poplar Apartments.  Investigators say the boy's body covered in burns and bruises, charged the boy's mother, 23-year-old Lashay Patterson and her boyfriend of a year, Christian Patrick.

The boy's father, Francisco Harris is in disbelief.  "I want to see justice at this point, my son didn't deserve that."

Family members say that Lashay became distant after meeting Patrict who has a criminal history of assault and drugs.  Some had suspected abuse.

The suspect's mother, Shelby Frazier says she believes her daughter would never do something like this.
