Pit bulls in Yuma horse attack ordered destroyed

Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - A judge in Yuma says two dogs connected to a fatal mauling of a horse are vicious and ordered one immediately euthanized.

Judge Yolanda Torok ordered the male pit bull named Pano destroyed because it was the obvious aggressor in the Nov. 5 attack. The Yuma Sun reports she ordered a female pit bull named Mackenzie euthanized if a suitable rescue can't be found in 15 days.

The horse named Spud was in his stall when Mackenzie and Pano escaped from their nearby home in the Foothills community just east of Yuma.

1 of the dogs' owners is facing a charge of violating a state law that makes a dog owner liable for hurting or killing livestock.

Horse owner Farrell Balentine said Wednesday she's pleased with the decision.
