Rotting Utility Pole That Threatened Delco Neighborhood Removed

Posted: Updated:
DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. -

FOX 29 is getting results for a Delaware County woman who faced a dangerous problem.

An old, rotting utility pole threatened the safety of her children and grandmother in a back alley behind the 900 block of West 3rd Street in Chester.

FOX 29 has received calls about cracked or leaning utility poles before, but FOX 29's Bruce Gordan found out this was something new.

Kena Ford called us to the alley behind her grandmother's home to show us the old 30-foot cedar utility pole that carried electric lines and a city street light.

That's when we noticed the pole had no hole, instead, it was just sitting on a piece of wood that was held in place by the lines connecting it to adjoining poles.

Ford's young kids play in the yard around the area of the pole.

Bruce Gordan got on the phone with PECO and within an hour a crew was on the scene.

PECO says it was their equipment on a Verizon pole.

With grandma and the little ones watching nervously, PECO crews switched electric lines to the new pole, moved the light switch over and cut up and carted away the old pole.
