TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Prosecutors
are now seeking the death penalty for a Tucson woman accused of
shooting her children to death in August.
Court documents made available
Tuesday show the Pima County Attorney's Office informed a judge last
week that it planned to seek death for 26-year-old Perla Morales. The
Arizona Daily Star reports the filing says prosecutors made the decision because there were multiple victims under age 15.
Court documents show Morales
told police she shot 17-month-old Richard Rosovich Jr. and 4-year-old
Emma Rosovich multiple times after her boyfriend threatened to leave
her.
Assistant Pima County Public
Defender Dawn Priestman provided mitigating evidence to the county
attorney's office in the hopes prosecutors would not pursue the death
penalty. That mitigating evidence is sealed.
