Hunter dies, son hurt after fall from tree stand

SUWANEE, Ga. -

Authorities say a hunter was killed and son injured when they plunged from a tree stand in a wooded area northeast of Atlanta.

Forsyth County Fire Chief Jason Shivers says rescuers battled darkness as they tried to reach the two, and located the father and son by tracking a cell phone signal off Old Atlanta Road in the Suwanee area Monday evening.

Rescuers say they started CPR on 44-year-old Jeffery Lane McBryant of Cumming, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shivers tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/Yok7Zn ) that his teenage son, whose name wasn't released, was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators estimate the two fell between 15 and 20 feet to the ground.
