PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona is appealing a court ruling against a new state law targeting Planned Parenthood.

At issue is the state's ban on public funding provided for Planned Parenthood Arizona for general health services that don't include abortion.

The state is asking the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn an Oct. 19 ruling on a lawsuit filed by the Planned Parenthood affiliate and a physician.

A preliminary injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Neil Wake keeps the state from implementing a new law that bars public funding for general health care services provided by abortion clinics and doctors.

Wake said the law conflicts with federal protections for Medicaid patients to choose their care providers.

Supporters of the law said it would ensure that no public money subsidizes abortion.
