ANOKA, Minn. (KMSP) -

Police in Anoka are investigating a deadly crash after a 16-year-old girl from Ramsey, Minn. was hit and killed trying to cross a busy highway.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the girl as Hannah Craft. FOX 9 News learned she had gone to work but then found out she didn't need to be there. She was hit as she made her way back home.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. Monday along Highway 10 near Verndale Avenue. Police say it appears Craft was trying to cross the highway when she was hit. She was not in a crosswalk at the time.

Craft died at the scene just two weeks before her 17th birthday. She is the fourth pedestrian to have been killed crossing the highway in the past six months.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the driver as a 39-year-old man from Mound, Minn. No alcohol was detected at the scene. He was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids with minor injuries.

Highway 10 was closed for several hours during the investigation Monday night.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to conduct a study to see if the road can be made safer.
