A grand jury has indicted six people in connection with a drug trafficking ring that turned up more than a hundred pounds of cocaine at a hotel in Times Square, the New York State Police and the New York City special narcotics prosecutor announced.

The New York State Police's Special Investigations Unit was keeping tabs on some suspects near the Crowne Plaza Hotel on October 25 when troopers saw one man leave the hotel, load a suitcase into the trunk of a silver BMW, and drive off. Police also saw another suspect leave the hotel carrying a suitcase and get into a livery cab, which drove off, authorities said.

Cops followed the two cars for a few blocks before pulling them over, police said. Police found several pounds of cocaine in each suitcase, authorities said.

Police then returned to the Crowne Plaza, where they saw another suspect with a suitcase talking to someone. Cops arrested the suspect and found about 66 pounds of cocaine in the suitcase.

Police then searched the hotel room where the suspects had been staying, arrested two more suspects inside, and found plastic wrap used to cover the drugs, plane tickets in the suspects' names, and cell phones, according to officials.

Authorities arrested Fernando Alvarado, Luis Cuevas-Muniz, Roberto Alvarez, Gerinerdo Hernandez, Kaleb Altiery-Vazquez, and Juan Alverio-Ruiz and charged them with various conspiracy and drug-related charges.
