GBI probes Buchanan shooting involving police

Posted: Updated:
HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it is investigating a shooting that happened early Monday in Buchanan involving two law enforcement officers.

GBI spokesman John Bankhead says police responded to a call about a knife-wielding man at a home on Young Street in Buchanan around 4 a.m.  Bankhead said the man attacked a relative at the home after kicking in the door.

Police ordered the suspect to drop the knife but he refused, and instead came toward one of the officers.  That's when another officer fired his weapon, hitting the man.  The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.   The suspect's name has not been released.
