Nassau County police arrested the driver of a vehicle who struck and seriously injured a motorcycle rider in Garden City Saturday morning.

Authorities say 69-year-old James Gallagher of Garden City was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder and attempted to make a left turn onto Old County Road when he struck the motorcycle traveling down on Old County Road at 9:20 a.m.

Gallagher did not stop his vehicle.

The 29-year-old motorcycle rider was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in critical but serious condition. The unidentified victim sustained internal injuries and had part of his right foot amputated.

A Garden City officer found Gallagher driving on a side street near the scene of the accident and placed him under arrest.

Gallagher is charged with Leaving the Scene of a Serious Physical Injury Collision and was arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
