Bikers rousted at motorcycle rally sue police

Updated:

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A motorcycle club is suing Arizona's state police and the Coconino County Sheriff's Office for civil rights violations after they were rousted at gunpoint at a northern Arizona campsite where a man had just shot his wife and two others before killing himself.

The suit filed by the Sons of Hell club and 15 of its members claims Department of Public Safety officers and sheriff's deputies targeted them following the July 22, 2011, shooting even though they weren't involved because they wanted to collect information for a criminal street gang database.

The motorcycle club members were among hundreds of bikers gathered at the Mormon Lake Lodge Campground when the shooting happened.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports a sheriff's spokesman declined comment. A DPS spokesman was not immediately available Saturday.
