Murder suspect apparently went dancing after killing

The man charged as the serial killer who shot and killed three Brooklyn shopkeepers went out dancing after allegedly murdering the last victim, according to the New York Post.

Salvatore Perrone, 64, of Staten Island went out less than two hours after allegedly shooting shopkeeper 78-year-old Rahmatollah Vahidipour in his Flatbush clothing store.

A friend of the suspect's girlfriend told the Post, "We dance every Friday night. On Friday, he came to the club at 9:00 p.m.," the friend said as he recalled the arrival of Perrone with his girlfriend.

Police arrested and charged Perrone on Wednesday with the killings of three Middle Eastern store owners.

Perrone began his murder spree in July when 65-year-old Mohamed Gebeli was found dead in his Bay Ridge clothing shop. A month later, 59-year-old Isaac Kadare was found shot to death in his 99-cent store in Bensonhurst.

All three victims were shot with the same .22-caliber weapon, according to police.

Perrone, who was given the name "John Doe Duffel Bag," because he was seen on surveillance video carrying a large bag near the scene of last Friday's murder was apprehended by police after a Bay Ridge pharmacy employee recognized him as a regular.

Police say the video footage was a big break in the case for investigators.

Perrone confessed to the murders only after talking to someone he thought was a CIA agent, according to law-enforcement officials.

Police say they have not cited a motive but all three victims were Middle Eastern, and believe the shootings were racially motivated.

Authorities say the suspect may have been planning another murder.

"We know that he went to other locations and asked questions that indicated -- that he very well planned to come back," said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Police say the sawed-off .22-caliber rifle with a flashlight taped to it was found in his duffel bag at his girlfriend, Natasha Charova's apartment in the Midwood section. Police say he stayed with Charova when he wasn't at his house in Sunnyside, Staten Island.
