2 arrested in connection with Mesa home invasion

Posted: Updated:

MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say two men suspected in a violent home invasion in Mesa are now in custody.

Maricopa County deputies say Jesus Andrade and Joshua Romero are accused of forcing their way into an elderly couple's home and stealing several items.

They say Romero had painted his face red and allegedly was the first suspect to enter the home.

Authorities say Andrade then entered the house and allegedly helped zip-tie an 81-year-old man and his 78-year-old wife.

Deputies say the suspects fled the scene after stealing a cellphone, cash and other items.

MCSO was able to track down the pair by tracing a number 1 of the men allegedly called from the stolen cellphone.

It was unclear Thursday whether either Romero or Andrade had lawyers yet.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
