CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Bears cornerback D.J. Moore points to problems he had as a youth as he prepares to surprise five teenagers with cash and mark the Thanksgiving holiday.
Moore on Tuesday will reward teens living in Chicago's Englewood community with $1,000 each. The teens participate in the Walgreens Expressions Challenge, which is designed to encourage them to address health issues through creative expression.
The presentation will take place at VILLA, a Philadelphia-based lifestyle retailer that supports the Walgreen initiative.
Moore says his gift to the teens is a way to show them that people care, adding that he "faced major challenges as a child growing up just as these young people have."
Following the presentation, Moore and Bears defensive tackle Nate Collins and others will distribute turkeys to neighborhood residents.
