25 adoptions finalized during event in Wayne County

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Michigan Adoption Day is one of the country's largest celebrations of its kind.  Tuesday, adoptions for 25 families were finalized in Wayne County alone.

Toddlers and teenagers now have a sense of home and permanence.

"When they can have a home, a parent who's there for them, their lives change dramatically.   They do better in school.  They do better in sports.  They feel connected," said Michigan Supreme Court Justice Mary Beth Kelly.

This is the day for which Keshaundra Chaney (pictured above) has been waiting .  Now she has a sister and a brother and a mom to shower her with compliments and build her confidence like every kids deserves.

"She's an awesome kid.  She has made some great progress socially, educationally, spiritually," said her new mother.

"It means a new home, a new family," Chaney said.

When she grows up, she wants to become a social worker and devote her life to paying it forward.

More than 13,000 children in Michigan still need a place to call home.

    A store clerk inside of a Brooklyn mini-mart was set ablaze when an enraged sicko threw a Molotov Cocktail into the store.  It happened just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday at the store on Fort Hamilton Parkway.The 34-year-old store clerk had his hair and coat catch fire in the attack.
