DEWEY, Ariz. -

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man who they say assaulted his 5-year-old son.

Monday morning, deputies responded to a 911 call for help at a home in Dewey, Ariz.

They contacted 34-year-old Seth Overson at the front door. He admitted to arguing with his wife, but otherwise did not know why deputies were called.

Deputies conducted a welfare check inside the home and located Overson's 5-year-old son bleeding from the nose and mouth, according to YCSO. There were bruises on his face and body.

The boy at first claimed his injuries were from a fall, but later admitted that his father had caused them.

The investigation found that Overson choked him and struck him with a plastic curtain rod, YCSO says. Overson eventually admitted to the crime. No one else in the house had been injured.

The boy was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and will be ok.

Overson was booked into jail on charges of child abuse, assault on a child, and assault resulting in serious injuries. Bond was set at $120,000.
