DETROIT (WJBK) -- Detroit Police need to name the newest horse joining their Mounted Unit and are turning to the city's elementary students for help.

A twelve-year-old Selle Francias horse is joining four other horses -- Baby, Elmo, Tiny and Wynn -- currently in the unit.

DPD wants students in first through sixth grades at the city's public and charter schools to submit possible names by December 20.

The winner will be picked by Interim Police Chief Chester Logan.  That student will be invited to the Mounted Unit's barn for the naming ceremony.

To enter, students need to get their name, a contact phone number and one suggested horse name to The Office of Public Information.  Entries can be phoned in to (313) 596-2200, faxed to (313) 596-1450, emailed to pubinfo@detroitmi.gov or mailed to 1300 Beaubien, Room 203, Detroit, MI 48226.
