A senior Hamas official is denying a report of a cease-fire deal with Israel but says agreement is close.

The Reuters news agency reported that Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire to take effect at 5 pm ET.  The agreement was brokered by Egyptian officials, according to FOX News.

Israel and Hamas militants have been engaged in a seven-day old air assault.

Gaza health officials say 115 Palestinians, including 54 civilians, have died and some 840 people have been wounded, including 225 children.

Three Israeli civilians have been killed and dozens wounded, the Associated Press reported.
