State inspection could OK pot dispensary in Tucson

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The ability of medical marijuana cardholders in the Tucson area to grow their own could start to be phased out as early as this week.

State officials plan Tuesday to inspect a dispensary - a step that could quickly lead to approval of a license to operate.

That's what occurred last week in the Phoenix area when a Glendale dispensary was approved the same day it was inspected.

That triggered a provision in the medical marijuana law to end cardholders' authorizations to grow marijuana when their current cards are up for renewal. That provision applies if cardholders are within 25 miles of a dispensary.

State officials cannot identify dispensaries, but KOLD identifies the Tucson facility as the Green Halo on South Wilmot Road.
