Residents In 20 States Start Secession Petitions

Posted: Updated:

A lot of people are still very unhappy that President Barack Obama was elected to a second term.

So many, in fact, that tens of thousands of people in 20 states have put their name on secession petitions.

Most states that are petitioning are considered "red states," but there are some Democratic strongholds, like New York and New Jersey, that also have petitions.

The right to petition the U.S. government is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution.
